This bass approximates the sound of a fender jazz. Can be noisy. I played this thing through a Hiwatt and got a fat old rock sound. This bass is best for having fun with. I like this bass because it is one of the first Japanese Fender copies and it almost sounds like a real fender jazz. Made by Ibanez, Fender sued and forced Ibanez to stop making copies of their instruments.

When I bought the Cimar, it looked as if it had been run over by a truck or used as a weapon in a fight, but the neck was straight so got it as a project. The nut had to be filed, one pickup had to be reattached, and the output jack had to be replaced. tuning keys are typically awful, but could br replaced with modern Gotoh repros.

I have been playing for twenty years and own many Fender basses. I bought this bass for fun, because it looks and sounds similar to a 70's Jazz Bass. The Cimar is probably more of a conversation piece than a daily workhorse, but if you can get one cheap, why not? I agree with the suggestions that this would be a good punk bass, its old, has decent low end, and has giant bridge saddle screws that will cut your hands to pieces if you play with a pick.
